Whether you are caring for a lace set, a bodysuit or hosiery, a few gentle habits make washing and storage easier. This lingerie care guide explains what to do before washing, how to clean different materials, and how to store pieces between wears.

Read the care details before washing

Start by checking the care label, product page notes and any trim details. If a style includes lace, mesh, elastic, hooks or decorative hardware, treat it as delicate even when the fabric feels sturdy. Separate dark colors from light colors, close hooks, and remove jewelry or accessories that could catch the fabric.

For a broad mix of styles, browse the lingerie collection and note the different fabric textures before choosing your wash method.

Hand washing: the safest everyday method

1. Use cool or lukewarm water

Fill a clean basin with cool or lukewarm water. Very hot water can place extra stress on elastic and may affect color. Add a small amount of mild detergent made for delicate garments, then mix it into the water before adding your lingerie.

2. Soak briefly and move gently

Let the piece soak for a short period, then move it slowly through the water. Avoid twisting, scrubbing or pulling straps. For areas that need extra attention, press the fabric gently between your fingers instead of rubbing it against itself.

3. Rinse until the water is clear

Drain the wash water and rinse with cool, clean water. Continue until no detergent remains. Leftover soap can make delicate fibers feel stiff and may irritate sensitive skin.

4. Remove water without wringing

Place the garment on a clean towel, roll the towel loosely and press once or twice. This removes excess water without stretching the fabric. Never wring a lace panel, elastic band or shaped cup.

When a washing machine is suitable

Some garments can be machine washed when the care label allows it. Put each item in a mesh laundry bag, select a cold gentle cycle and use a low-spin setting. Avoid mixing delicate lingerie with denim, towels, zippers or rough fabrics. Those items can create friction and pull on fine details.

Hosiery benefits from the same approach. If you are choosing a new pair, explore hosiery styles and plan to wash them separately from heavier clothing.

Drying without damaging shape

Air drying is usually the gentlest option. Lay the garment flat on a dry towel or hang it from a non-stretch area away from direct heat. Do not use a hot radiator, tumble dryer or strong sunlight for delicate lace and elastic. Heat can shorten the useful life of stretch fibers and may fade darker colors.
